Saxophones
For Sale or Rent

I offer just a few saxophones for sale or rent at a time as an extension service to my studio.  They are all used instruments of good, time-tested brands and models that I personally believe to be great, long-term players at fair prices.  It helps takes guess-work out of buying your first saxophone.  They are cleaned and any adjustments, repairs or replacement materials are handled by me personally.  I also extensively play test every horn in the studio, classroom, and often at jam sessions, etc.  There is no saxophone I'd hand to one of my students that I wouldn't be happy to play myself.  One year of maintenance is provided on most saxophones sold (check descriptions).  All saxophones for sale are also available as rent-to-own as long as you are a current student in my studio.  Contact me for details.

  • Alto Sax - Ida Maria Grassi "Jade Roller" Early 70's
Price - $549 +tax Rental Rate - $35 /mo +tax *must be a private student to rent (I have openings!) Rental Deposit - $75 Great value for a nice playing and quite unique alto... a Jade-Roller, Green-Pad Grassi Beautifully made Italian Saxophone from the Ida Maria Grassi factory outside of Milan (closed in 2000). This model would be considered an 'intermediate' horn by today's standards - with a mix of 'professional' and 'beginner' features. This alto in particular is special and needs some explaining. On some saxophones, Grassi would put their signature jade (the gemstone) rollers and/or inlays on the pinky keys instead of the standard mother of pearl or plastic. This one has three that are original (I think) and the remainder are an iridescent green plastic which may or may not have been original. Further more, on just some of these earlier "Jade Rollers", they even dyed the pad leather green. Well, this is a green-pad, jade-roller Grassi. Rare or special? Up to you. However, I did try and preserve the original pads and was very conservative on replacing; only needing two pads replaced to play well. It would benefit from a couple more pads to be replaced but I'll leave that up to the next owner because I, personally, would leave the original green pads as long as possible. The thumb piece for the octave key was missing so it was replaced with a cork. The neck is NOT original but the one it comes with matches very well and produces a more open feel than other Grassis I've played. If it had its original neck, the value (as a collectors horn, not how it plays) would be about double what I'm selling it for. This horn does NOT come with a 1 year warranty. Contact me to make an appointment to try it out! If you are a student of mine, just ask to try it out during your next lesson :).

  • SOLD! - Alto Sax - Yamaha YAS-23
Price - $699 +tax Rental Rate - $35 /mo +tax *must be a private student to rent (I have openings!) Rental Deposit - $75 This Alto Sax was found used but in great mechanical shape. Some typical scratches lacquer wear. All but one pad was original and I replaced another that was on its way out. Tuned up, adjusted and plays great! Comes with a mouthpiece, a few reeds, neckstrap, original case (some wear, but all functional). The 23-series Yamaha saxophones are still the most recommended student saxophone out there. They're 'easy blowing' and actually quite good for pop/rock/jazz. I learned on an alto (YAS-23) and still play it almost 30 years later as a classroom or backup horn. I could go into way too much detail of why these are considered great horns by me and most saxophonists, but just come by and play this one for yourself. By appointment only!
  • SOLD! - Alto Saxophone - Ida Maria Grassi "Professional 2000"
Price - $1399 +tax Rental Rate - $55 /mo +tax *must be a private student to rent (I have openings!) Rental Deposit - $125 The Professional 2000 is likely the best model ever put out by the Italian saxophone-maker, Ida Maria Grassi, in the period before they closed their factory outside of Milan in 2000. This, along with the "Prestige 2000", are probably the most sought after Grassi saxophones. A Selmer or Yamaha built at this quality would easily cost 3-4x as much due to the brand hype (or, lack-thereof. This horn could last a lifetime in the right hands and plays beautifully. It looks like it had a recent overhaul and was a solid player (great feel, by the way) right from when it came in a few months ago. The original case that's include is very stylish and totally Italian: Faux gator leather, chunky brass locks, chunky brass corner protectors... gorgeous. Contact me to make an appointment to try it out! If you are a student of mine, just ask to try it out during your next lesson :).
  • SOLD! Tenor Sax - Yamaha YTS-23
Price - $1799 +tax Rental Rate - $55 /mo +tax *must be a private student to rent (I have openings!) Rental Deposit - $125 Great shape! Acquired locally and it appears never to have been played regularly. Closet horn. No rust, no finger-wear marks, just a few usual small imperfections. Just got all new pads (with metal, domed resonators, upgrade!). The old ones were brittle from not being used (just like a car that sits in a garage, the gaskets etc. will leak from being dried out). Adjusted and plays great! Case in good condition, too. Unless you're a student :).
  • SOLD! Alto Sax - Ida Maria Grassi 1974
Price - $799 +tax Rental Rate - $35 /mo +tax *must be a private student to rent (I have openings!) Rental Deposit - $75 Great sounding and beautifully hand-made Italian Saxophone from the Ida Maria Grassi factory outside of Milan (closed in 2000). They only had one model at that time but it would be considered an 'intermediate' horn by today's standards - with a mix of 'professional' and 'beginner' features. Rich, beautiful tone can be used as a classical or jazz instrument. Vintage saxophone with a rich, vintage sound! Also, a vintage key layout (the low pinky keys take more effort than newer horns). Just serviced and plays great! I've been bringing it to classrooms this Fall as my clinic sax. Contact me to make an appointment to try it out! If you are a student of mine, just ask to try it out during your next lesson :).
